Reclining Seats

Why was it popular to have tombstones that looked like chairs/recliners?

while i was in springfield IL this spring, i went through a few cemetary's and seen several tombstones that resembled chairs/recliners they were all very old that had this kind of tombstone, does anyone have any information about this? i couldn't find anything on google, thanks.

1. A hundred years ago, people visited the graves more often. They tried to make it park like with statues, fountains and stone benches to sit on. The stone recliners are not actually a tombstone, but were placed next to the real tombstone, so family members would have a place to sit and visit.
