How do I avoid recliner chairs at home ruining the walls?

I've been having problems with my recliner in the den,it's been scratching the wall and now I need to paint. I'll like to avoid this in the future,any suggestion will be appreciated.

1. The easiest fix would be to move it farther away from the wall.
2. You are kidding....right? Pull it further away from the wall, DUH. Another sure fire way is to not sit in it.
